Are any of you taking phentermine and suffering from an underactive thyroid?
I am not on phentermine but I want to be but I heard that you cannot take it if you have thyroid problems. I have done some reading and it says it pertains to those with an overactive thyroid. I have read about several people taking phentermine and their thyroid meds with no problem but I would like to read more. I am going to start taking b-12 shots on Thursday and the dr is going to look at my bloodwork to decide if I can take phentermine.

Hellol....I take .125mg of synthroid everyday and 30mg of phentermine...no issues at all...I think there is a problem with phentermine and OVERactive thyroid, though...good luck!!

i also have hypothyroidism and have no trouble with synthroid and phen. I take synthroid when I first get up about one hour before I eat.and phen one hour after breakfast.
There is a problem with hyperthyroidism and phen. Can't mix the two but most hypers are too thin, not heavy.

same here, I take syndroid. Can't really say if there will be a problem because I started today on the phen, but I doubt it.
I think it's more of a hyperthyroid problem then it is a hypothyroid issue.

I have been on Synthroid for 11-12 years and was put on Phentermine 1-1/2 yrs ago by my Dr.s Phys. Assistant. He also increased my Synthroid from .100 to .125. I lost 35 lbs in 2 months. Of course I was on a strict no carb diet and treadmill daily. When my Doc realized what he had done, she stopped the Phentermine abruptly and dropped my thyroid back to .100. This led me to ask my Pharmacist about mixing the two and she said she agreed that it is irresponsible to put a patient on both.
I recently asked my Doc to up my thyroid to .125, which she did, and I mentioned the Phentermine thing. She said she stopped it because she figured I wanted to live a bit longer. Now Im a bit confused as my Doctor and the Pharm both were quite adament that the two don't mix. I really would like to take Phentermine again, but I don't dare ask.
The only side effects I had at that time was a numb feeling of my face daily and mostly in the afternoons.

I am also hypo. and I take a mixture of Armour Thyroid/Synthroid. On the drug interaction checker, there are no interaction problems between thyroid meds and Phentermine.

I take Levothyroxine at the dosage of 200 my dr and pharmicist both said there was no worries with this combo, I believe if you are HYPER then there is an issue, but not if you are HYPO.

Hello. Are you still on a mixture of synthroid and armour? Either way what percentage of synthroid to armour have you used or worked for you. I have struggled for 5-6 years to feel like a real person and I am starting to try this combo.

I have been on synthroid 14 years & always was afraid to take a "diet pill". My doctor is the one that suggested I try adipex (phen). So far so good. Even after being on thyroid meds so long I still have it checked every six months & go from .125 synthroid to .137 & .150, I asked my doctor why she keeps changing it & she said my T3 is fine, it is my T4 that is low & since I have " Hoshimotos" disease my thyroid is slowly dying. Hoshimotos is Hypothyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is the opposite & if you are putting on weight with this disease, it has progressed to much & you need to see an endocrinologist to either kill the thyroid, which will then cause you to be "hypo" instead & then you can take phen. You're at risk for heart attack with "hyper" & seizures, the last thing you need is a stimulant like phen. I am not a doctor, but being a hairstylist makes me hear about alot & I may even be qualified as a counselor now, since I have done hair for 24 years
